Monday's Musings

Good Monday, everyone! How was last week for you? Did you stay warm? Did you read some great books? If so, please share!

As for me, I worked on copy edits all week and weekend. LAST CHANCE is really coming together. They're due back on Thursday, so I have a few more days to play with it. The copy editing phase is the SECOND CHANCE to make corrections before it goes to the galley phase. The galley phase is the LAST CHANCE to fix anything at all. After that, there is NO CHANCE. (Snort) Okay, I promise, we're almost through with playing with these titles. Got to get to work on coming up with more we can use.

After I send the copy edits off, I'll post again with news of release dates for the 2011 books, along with some information on blogs I'll be visiting in February. Also, I believe I have a Barnes and Noble gift card I want to give away. And yes, still planning on sharing an excerpt for LAST CHANCE. Stay tuned!

So what's going on in your world and what good books can you recommend for us this week?

Happy Monday morning, Christy!

This past week I read Stephanie Tyler's "Too Hot to Hold" which was outstanding. The last book in this trilogy starring the three SEAL brothers comes out January
26th and I'm looking forward to reading it as well.

In keeping with my decision to read more historical romances, I read Anna Campbell's "Untouched" also. It was dark and strained the emotions but I enjoyed it immensely. The hero and heroine were both strong and intense characters.

I'm off to the Used Bookstore this morning to find Jennifer Ashley's "The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie", along with Connie Brockway's "As You Desire" and "All Through the Night". This should keep me busy reading for awhile.

I must admit I'm getting very anxious for those new "CHANCES" to appear on the shelves in my favorite bookstore. Romantic suspense is and always will be my favorite genre.

Hey, Oklanannie! Glad you enjoyed Too Hot to Hold. That's on my list of top ten books to get this week. Can't wait. Everyone is loving these books!

I really enjoy a good angst-filled, rich historical, so will definitely be on the lookout for Untouched. I've seen it recommended in several places.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie. And Connie Brockkway's As You Desire and All Through the Night are wonderful. I read them several years ago and highly recommend them.

Sounds like you had a fabulous book-filled week. What's on your reading list for this week?

Hey Oklanannie and Christy!
I finished Too Hot to Hold this weekend as well. Such a fun series! Stephanie Tyler really set up the third book so nicely. I'm glad we only have to wait a couple of weeks before it comes out.
I am reading some older books right now - Susan Wiggs' Dockside, Shannon McKenna's Tasting Fear, and Karen Marie Moning's To Tame a Highland Warrior. I haven't gotten too far into any of them, but am enjoying them all. I just recently started reading the Wiggs' series, and am going through those fairly quickly.
Hope ya'll have a great day! It's warmer here now, thank goodness!

Kara, wow, three books at once? Plus another series?

Okay, confess everyone. How many books can you have going at the same time? How do you keep from getting the story lines and characters confused with each other?

Hiding her face in shame, she asked, "Am I the only one who can only read one book at a time?"

Mary G.! NO CHANCE to read? Horrors!

Hope you get some time soon! If you bought tons of books, sounds like you've definitely got plenty to keep you busy when you do.

Waving back at you, Ida! Got plenty of coffee this morning. Thanks!

So audio books. Do many of you listen to audio? I received an email last week that they were about to begin recording NO CHANCE for audio. Gulp. All those words I only heard in my head are about to be spoken out loud. Cannot wait to hear it!!!

So do you guys like to listen to romance books on audio? Do you have a favorite?

Hey, Jane. I've heard great things about Catherine Mann. Really need to try her!

Can't wait to share LAST CHANCE with you guys. I so love these characters and this story. Okay, I admit, I love all of my characters and stories, but am just having a blast with McKenna and Lucas right now. (:

Hi Christy
I am usually in the middle of numerous books. Some depend on the mood I'm in. Some I can't read at work because of the cover. I can't read romantic suspense at bedtime anymore as I have been up till 4:30AM because I couldn't put a book down. Then I can't sleep because I'm still in adrenaline mode. Thank God for bookmarks. It's not unusual for me to be in the middle of 3 - 4 books. Doesn't include beta reading which is a pleasure but I read with a red pen. I don't get confused because there are different reasons for reading them.

Mary, so you read different books based upon your mood, circumstances and location. Interesting! Thanks for sharing.

This is the first one ever for me? not sure if i will like it or not!

I can have several books going at once but like to read only one.
I read pretty fast so I can get to the next one in line before the day is out.

Okay, don't laugh, because this is just me. I'm a savorer. After I read a book I've enjoyed, I like to sit back and think about it a while. I wonder why the author chose a certain direction in the story, why this character said this or that. If it's especially romantic, (Judith McNaught comes to mind) I like to reread particular passages where the hero and heroine talk to each other and yes, I sigh a lot.

Told you guys not to laugh!

No laughing here. I have books that just blew me away with bookmarks in them to reread passages. But you probably read like a writer, with technical & creative views that we don't have.
I like what Ida said too. I have to be in the middle of a book at all times. What if I start a new one & it doesn't grab me right away? I'd be stuck.

I almost always have 2 -4 books going at one time. I try to keep them in different genres though, which helps me keep the storylines and characters straight. Never know what I'll be in the mood for! Of course, some of my friends have diagnosed me with literary ADD.
As for audio books, I always have one going in my car. It takes me a lot longer to get through one than if I read the book since I'm rarely in the car alone. My favorite audio series by far is Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooters. There are two people that do each book, since she has so many points of view in her books. The man has those characters absolutely pegged! Of course, an irritating voice can really distract from the story, so I'm fairly picky about what I listen to.
Mary G, I have really liked the Shannon McKenna I've read in the past. Haven't gotten far in this one yet, but it's starting out promising. :)

Hey everyone,

I've read "Too Hot Too Hold" this weekend. I actually loved this book more than the first one in the series. I'm glad we don't have to wait long for the next one.

Next up for me is Shannon Mckenna's Ultimate Weapon. It's been in my TBR pile for so long. It's time I got to it.

Enjoy Ultimate Weapon. That one is on my TBR pile too.

Reading To Hot To Hold. I get into trouble when I read 3 books at once but it happens when I get excited and I can't wait to read a book. Kara, I have been looking for the audios for Brockmann's books. So which books does the guy do? I haven't tried audio but Kara made it sound worth the try with the guy talking:). Had some really good suggestions. Thanks to all you guys.
