Recommend Monday!

Good Monday All!

Did you have a good weekend? Mine was excellent. I spent some one-on-one time with my strong, silent hero aka Dylan Savage. The man is finally opening up! And yesterday, I spent the day with my mom. We had so much fun; the weather was glorious! Who knew it could be sunny and 70 this time of year in Alabama?

No reading for me last week. I did start a couple of books but when I'm in writing mode, it sometimes takes me weeks to finish. But hopefully I'll have some recommendations for you by the end of the month.

Sunday, May 16, is the day we've set for the LAST CHANCE discussion. If you'd like to be on the Yahoo loop to participate, send your email addy to christy@christyreece.com and I'll send you an invitation. Beware, spoilers are involved and lots of fun too!

How was your reading week last week? Did you read anything absolutely fabulous you want the world to know about? Share with us!

I'll be offline most of the week. Deadline is looming on SWEET REVENGE, so I need to buckle down and get some major writing done.

If you're in the Huntsville, Alabama area on Saturday, May 15, I'll be at the Heart of Dixie Readers Luncheon at the Von Braun Center. After the luncheon, I'll be one of several authors signings, so come by and say hi if you get the CHANCE!

Now tell us what we should be reading!

Have a marvelous Monday everyone!

Happy Monday!
I've been on a reading binge lately (thanks in large part to the new authors I'm trying). Lately it's Laura Griffin who I'm really enjoying.

BUT, here's something I encountered last week. I didn't get why the h/h fell in love. Lust? Sure, there was plenty of that. But I didn't follow how he even liked her as a person. It's a wierd feeling that I've been dragging around with me since reading that book. So, that's frustrating. I'm doing much better with the romance between the current h/h I'm reading (Nathan & Alex for those in the know). The secondary characters are great too. Really enjoying this one.

And my weekend, because I know everyone is dying to hear about it, ROCKED! It started Friday when I went dashing out of my office in order to meet up with hubby (who was dropping the kids off at the sitter for an overnight date) so we could head to the Nickelback concert. Traffic was TERRIBLE, so I missed the first couple opening acts (someone I'd never heard of and Sick Puppies) but caught Breaking Benjamin. (up note, I happened to meet the guys of Sick Puppies later. They are cute and made me feel a bit Mrs. Robinson-ish. LOL) Nickelback is AMAZING in concert and I had so much fun. There were a couple grey haired guys behind us up a level that were playing a mean air guitar. LOL, I thought they were going to flip themselves over the railing a couple times. And Sister J is right; Daniel (Nickelback's drummer) is H-O-T.

Saturday was a gorgeous day, so after picking up the boys I parked my butt outside with a book. Did a little gardening, but mostly just soaked up the rays. Repeat on Sunday, taking a break for Brunch. It was a WONDERFUL weekend.

Just stopping by real quick. Sometimes Mondays are a pain but will think back on the books I have read. I did read a book by Rachel Gibson that kept me up most of the night laughing. It was great. Will tell more when I get back. :)

I just finished Last Chance. Awesome!! I started reading Bound by Dreams by Christina Skye this morning on the train....so far it's really good! I admit that I like mostly all the books I read, but there are some that really hook me and I think about long after I'm done.

Hey all!
I wish I could swing over to Huntsville Saturday. Sounds like a lot of fun!
I've been in a bit of a re-read mood lately, which is odd since there are SO MANY new books out that I'd love to read. Sometimes though, a comfort read is the way to go. I've reread Blue-Eyed Devil and Smooth Talking Stranger by Lisa Kleypas and Gotcha by Christie Craig. Love that book, and she has a new one coming out soon. I have LAST CHANCE on my reread list as well, to get ready for Sunday's chat, and just because a revisit with those characters sounds great.
I just started Simply Irresistable by Rachel Gibson and Lori O'Clare's new book. So far, I am enjoying them both.
There are only TWO MORE Mondays left in the school year...not that I'm keeping track or anything. :)

Hi Peeces
I read:

Lake Magic - Kimberly Fisk
It was magical. I loved it & Jared is HOT. Don't know why RT mag rated it MILD.

Instant Temptation - Jill Shalvis
Almost finished & loving TJ & his abs LOL

His Darkest Hunger-Juliana Stone
This is a jaguar shape-shifter book. Never read this type but this book is incredible. Could not put it down. the story & Jaxon the hero, are so HOT.
Juliana is Canadian. I was lucky enough to meet her in January when I went to an RWA meeting. She came back to town on Saturday for another meeting. We went for brunch & I got her to sign it. SOOO Cool.

Hey everyone
Christy,
You have me drooling already for Dylan! Good luck with your deadline! Hope he is good to you this week!

I started Cindy Gerards Bodyguard series last week. I bought all of them I read books 1 and 2, went to start #3......couldn't find the crazy book ANYWHERE!! I drove my husband crazy looking for it. Needless to say I had to order a new one an I am patiently (as can be) waiting for it to arrive. (hopefully today!) Books 1 and 2 were great!
Ronlyn
So glad you had such an awesome weekend! Our weather actually got into the lower 60's yesterday I thought that was great! lol
Hey Kara
you said you reread Lisa Kleypas's blue-eyed devil. I bought the book without realizing its written in first person. I was wondering if all her books are written like that? I haven't even read the book yet. I have a hard time talking myself into picking it up, just for that reason.

One other question for all of you Pamela Clare fans. I am thinking about reading one of her historicals. I'm not a big fan of historical books, but I am considering one of hers. What would you all recommend to be the first one of hers to read?

Ronlyn said...

Crystal, Start with Pamela's MacKinnon series. They are her newer historicals and are AMAZING.

Scorpio M. said...

@Crystal - I second the MacKinnon series rec. SURRENDER is great, action packed & very romantic.

@Mary G - me too, I'm not a big paranormal reader, I find it very hard to get into. I do have Juliana's book coming my way though.

I read Charlotte Featherstone's, SINFUL last week...she's a new author to me and I really enjoyed this darker Victorian, beware though, it doesn't have a traditional HEA.

Currently, I'm finishing up a Sarah Mayberry catagory romance, HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS. Mayberry packs alot of emotion in such a short format. I haven't read anything by her I haven't liked.

Hi everyone! Finished a reread of LAST CHANCE (loved it even more - it totally got under my skin!) and I also finished Julia Quinn's "Bridgerton" historical series which I found myself enjoying very much. I think the historicals are going to be what sustain me until the "SWEETs" arrive next year. I am looking forward to Cindy Gerard's RISK NO SECRETS next week, along with Toni Blake's SUGAR CREEK.

@ Mary G - I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed Kimberly Fisk's LAKE MAGIC. I thought it was EXCELLENT! I'm looking forward to her next book to see if it equals the first!

@ Crystal, I'm not a lover of books written in "first person" BUT Kleypas does it extraordinarily well. Her books are SO worth reading that you won't want to miss out on them. SMOOTH TALKING STRANGER was my favorite -- Jack!!

As for Pamela Clare's historicals, I started with the "Kenleigh" series and loved them equally as much as the "Mackinnons." Each book is very good!

@ Kara - I'm looking forward to Christie Craig's SHUT UP AND KISS ME, too! I've liked all her books alot. Good solid contemporary romances.

@ Scorpio - I just had SINFUL recommended to me and have never read anything by Charlotte Featherstone. I've got it on my TBR list. Glad to hear another positive recommendation.

Christy, so glad you enjoyed a visit with your mom! I'm looking forward to the LAST CHANCE discussion next Sunday.

Storms approaching our area and they say they could be severe! I'm getting everything read to put in my safe room. I'm a real skeerdy cat when the sirens sound.

Scorpio M. said...

@oklanannie - if you get a chance to pick up SINFUL, do. I think it's a worthwhile read. I couldn't stop reading it and I am still thinking about certain scenes. SINFUL explores some dark themes and the hero is no psuedo-broken man. He IS broken and defiant. I loved him very much. I felt this way about Gabe Rossiter, too, just to put it in perspective. :)

I do have some small quibbles about SINFUL but not enough for me to get hung up about. The book is billed as an 'erotic historical' but there weren't any over-the-top acts going on, thank goodness. I'm not a fan that type of romance. I like character-driven, emotional reads and that is what SINFUL delivered.

oklanannie said...

@ Scorpio M - have you gone to Featherstone's website and uploaded the epilogue to "Sinful"? The author explains why the epilogue was not included in the book and why she has given her readers the epilogue for free.

Kara C said...

Crystal,
I LOVED those Kleypas books, even given the fact they are in first person. So far, Ride the Fire is my favorite PC historical, but then I haven't read the MacKinnon's yet. If your luck is anything like mine, you'll probably find the lost book on the same day the new copy arrives. :)
Mary,
I really liked Lake Magic too!

Scorpio M. said...

@oklanannie - I did! I read the epilogue not because I was unsatisfied with the ending as is, but only because it was there and I wanted to read more about Matthew & Jane.

Personally, I did not need the epilogue but I don't want to give too much away. Given Featherstone's explanation I think she made the right decision to skip the epilogue in lieu of the additional lovescene. The ending fit the story, imo.

Hey Everyone, just dropping in to say, hey everyone. (:

Looks like there some terrific books were read last week. Hope you all are getting good recommendations for your next bookstore trip. And thanks so much Kris, Kara, and Oklanannie for reading and/or rereading LAST CHANCE! Woohoo!

Sorry I can't stay and chat, but Dylan's calling and I'm answering. (:

Happy Monday All!

Ronlyn, I am so glad you are enjoying Laura Griffin and had a great time a Nickelback!

Crystal, so glad that you are enjoying the Gerard books. Here first 3 are my absolute favs of hers :)

Brian was home on a weekend pass -- that makes him sound like a criminal -- and since it was Mother's Day weekend, I was given lots of time to read :)

I finally read JT Ellison's The Cold Room. I am so glad that I read this one while Brian was home. Man does she write some creepy villains! So, so good and I can't wait for the next one.

Read Rachel Gibson's Nothing But Trouble. It was a good read but still not as good for me as See Jane Score!

Did a really quick read of Julie Miller's Takedown. She is one of the few Harlequin Series authors that I can still read. She does a great job in 250 pages!

Had a great time rereading Erin McCarthy's Hard & Fast. I really love her race car books. They are so yummy!

Now I am trying to get into Beverly Barton's Dead by Midnight. But as someone that is scared of the dark and freaks out at every single noise when I go to bed, I am thinking I need to wait for Brian to get back home before I read it.

And what I wouldn't give to drive to Alabama but we have a birthday party that we have to go to. Man that sucks :(

Ronlyn- My husband surprised me w/ Nickelback ticket's last year. They put on an amazing show ! The drummer is very hot :).

As I said earlier "See Jane Score" had me up most of the night laughing. I didn't want to put it down. Read Kat Martin's "Rule's Bride", Catch of the Day, and am reading Rachel Gibson's "Simply Irresistible". Have a growing TBR pile started and plan to read "Play Dirty" next. :)

Hi all...

Right now I am reading Strong, Sleek and Sinful by Lorie O'Clare she is a new author to me and I loved the start of the book I took my gift card from Christy and bought the first 2 in the series. (Thanks Christy. I also bought Danny Gohke's CD with the gift card so thanks for that too).

Aly...I read Dead by Midnight, I was a really good book.
