Favorite Reads

Hi Everyone-

Hope you all had a good weekend. Mine was definitely full and fun with shopping, eating out and a baby shower. Still have shopping to do this week but really hope to be finished by Wednesday. Didn't get a CHANCE to read very much this past week, but that didn't stop me from buying a few.

Here's what I purchased in the last week:

The Surgeon's Lady by Carla Kelly. I've heard wonderful things about this book and look forward to reading it.
Waking the Dead by Kylie Brant. This is the third in her Mindhunters series. I have the other two and have heard great things about them. They're all on my TBR stack.
Royal's Bride by Kat Martin. Love Kat Martin!
Daring Time by Beth Kerry. Have heard great things about Beth Kerry and look forward to reading her. Thanks, Mary! (:
Dark Slayer by Christine Feehan. I found this on sale at Barnes and Noble for 50% off. What a deal! Love the Dark series!

Let's talk about what you've loved this past week. The only rule here is that we're looking for recommendations and good stuff only. What good books did you get a CHANCE to read last week and what do you hope to get a CHANCE to read this week?

And yes, I've noticed how this blogger capitalizes the word CHANCE. So odd, don't you think? (:

Okay, let's chat!

Good morning all,
First, let me just say this one thing, sure to put a smile on the faces of teachers and kids everywhere - It's CHRISTMAS BREAK! See, Christy, you're not the only one who makes liberal use of the cap key.(:
With that out of the way, I have finally gotten to read a few books that have been 'on deck' for me to read for a while now. I am about halfway through the new Christie Craig book Divorced, Desperate, and Deceived. It is really good. There a nice blend of suspense, romance, and humor. Also read the latest Laura Griffin book Untraceable. Definitely recommend it to any romantic suspense fans out there. There are characters in this book from her last three books as well, all of which I'd recommend. I can't believe I didn't bring her name up when we had our week long discussion on fave authors and books. She is terrific.
I also read some of the books others recommended here last week. Sweet Baby (true tear jerker) and a couple of Catherine Anderson's Coulter/ Kendrick series. So sweet.
I'm off to enjoy CHRISTMAS BREAK, but since we are out of school (because it's CHRISTMAS BREAK), I'll get to check back in a bit and see what others recommend.
Hope everyone has a great Monday.

Hey Ida, after seeing all the Facebook comments about all the goodies you've been preparing, I can't believe you could get to chapter 8 of anything!

I'll look for this series. I do enjoy a good vampire romance. Thanks for the recommend!

Kara, congrats on being out for CHRISTMAS BREAK! Hope you have a fabulous time.

Great recommends too! You're right. Can't believe we didn't discuss Laura Griffin last week. She's a great romantic suspense author! And you already know I love Christie Craig. And yes, Sweet Baby by Sharon Sala, so heartwrenching but wonderful. And did we talk about Catherine Anderson last week? She's fabulous too! Baby Mine and Phantom Waltz are two of my favorites.

Thanks, Kara. Hope you get a CHANCE to read during your CHRISTMAS BREAK! (Wow, these caps are just going crazy, aren't they?)

Hi Christy
So excited you'll be reading Beth Kery's book. I am always amazed when I finish a book that has no loose ends. Daring Time has two parallel stories that tie in just beautifully at the end(pure genius is what I wrote to Beth).

I finished One Night With You by Francis Ray. She never disappoints.
Reading Hot As Sin by Bella Andre.
Love her firefighter & athlete books. Got my book order from Chapters & I'm waiting for my Ellora's Cave order so I can read Elizabeth Jenning's books(Lisa Marie Rice pen name).
Thanks for mentioning Laura Griffin. I was curious about her books.

Dying to Scream by Mary Barton is the book I am currently reading and almost done with. It ties in really good with her other books so if you have read her previous ones this keeps the same characters we grow to love. My next book on the shelf to read is Up Close and Personal by Carla Cassidy. I saw it at the grocery store a month ago and did not buy it, kicked myself for not getting it so had to wait for it to come in the mail. I hope it is as good as it looks.

Mary G,
I didn't know Lisa Marie Rice and Elizabeth Jennings were the same person! Bet Christy didn't know she is providing an educational service. lol And I bet you'll love Laura Griffin. I don't think she has written a bad book.
Sarah,
I have all three Mary Burton books but haven't gotten to them yet. Now that I'm on CHRISTMAS BREAK, maybe I'll get a CHANCE! =)
Christy,
I finished Baby Love and Phanton Waltz in the last few days. Will start on book 3 this week. I've read the series (a long time ago), but they are sooo good.

I just finished Vanessa Kelly's debut, "Mastering the Marquess." I really liked the book and look forward to her next release. I'm a big fan of Mary Burton, too. I need to get my hands on "Dying Scream." I read the first two books in the series.

Hi Kara
I love those Catherine Anderson books. They are on my keeper shelf. My order came today from Ellora's Cave!!! First time I've ordered from them. They shipped on the 14th. Left New York on the 16th. Cleared Canada Customs Friday the 18th & Canada Post delivered them today & I was home!! I'm so impressed. I'll let you know how the Elizabeth Jennings books are. I'll probably read them next. One of the books was $172.00 at Amazon.ca. I paid 3.00 plus shipping from the publisher. I've only read one Christie Craig. I'm going to get the rest.

Mary, I'm excited to read Beth Kerry's book. I know it'll be fantastic. And I didn't know that about Lisa Marie Rice and Elizabeth Jennings either. Good to know. I've enjoyed several of Lisa Marie Rice books!

Love Laura Griffin and Bella Andre! I've not read Francis Ray but I need to. Will definitely add her to my list.

Christy Reece said...

LOL Kara, just realized I said Baby Mine...meant Baby Love. Great book!

Christy Reece said...

Ida, I know that's frustrating when you don't immediately have the other one to start. Hope you get it soon!

Christy Reece said...

Sarah, I need to read Mary Burton. Heard great things about her. And Carla Cassidy is wonderful too!

Vanessa Kelly's book looks so good! Must add that to my list. Thanks, Jane!

I just read "Stolen Seduction" the third book in the Stolen series by Elizabeth Naughton. It's treasure hunt / romantic suspense and I really enjoyed all the books in the series. The characters from the first two briefly appear in the recent book, so you get to catch up with them as well.

Christy Reece said...

Jennifer, I've heard fabulous things about Elizabeth Naughton books. They look wonderful and her covers are absolutely beautiful. I have the first two. Must move them higher up on my stack!

Has anyone read Silent Night, Haunted Night by Terri Garey?
New Author to me i picked it up last week and getting ready to start reading.

Ida Brugler said...

"NO CHANCE"! lol

Kara C said...

LOL Ida. I've heard of that author but have not read anything by her.
Jennifer,
I have read the first Naughton book and really enjoyed it. The second book is sitting on my table, which usually means it's next to be read. Then Christy had her week long bookathon, and I found myself reading lots of other books! :) I didn't even know the third book was out yet. Better get on it!

Christy Reece said...

Ida, only 64 days left. Right?

What a sweetheart! Congrats, Ida.

Ida Brugler said...

Christy,
That is correct 64 very very stressful days. With NO CHANCE for relif till books are on the shelf. And then when the time comes. It will be over all to soon. We will then have to wait 28 for a SECOND CHANCE to read another great book from you. Then 35 more days after that we will get our LAST CHANCE to be blessed with your work till 2011. (he he had to do some math really quick)

Thus far this week, I've read "Sam the Snowman," "Puff the Magic Dragon", "The Littlest Angel" and about a dozen "Hairy Maclary" books! Do those count? The grandkids are here and we're having us a grand old time!

Before the crowd arrived, I finished Karen Kendall's "Take Me For A Ride" which was a pleasant surprise! I picked it up at the grocery store and enjoyed the fast-paced storyline which takes you on a merry chase from Connecticut to Russia to find a stolen necklace. The h/h are both interesting characters - there's even a blind granny who has a beau! I really enjoyed the two main characters and their road to a HEA! There's lots of witty dialogue and a few history lessons thrown in as well.

I've read Elizabeth Naughton's "Stolen" series and loved them all. "Seduction" didn't disappoint.

Mary G said...

Hi Christy
Be prepared for Elisabeth Naughton's books. Literally you are grabbed on the first page & you won't be able to put them down so don't start at bedtime (I finished at 4 in the morning after going to bed at 1:30AM). Then I couldn't sleep cause I was still on an adrenaline high.

Christy Reece said...

Had company come in and this was my first CHANCE to read your post. LOL. Ida, that was perfect!

Christy Reece said...

Oklanannie, sounds like you're having a wonderful time. So Puff the Magic Dragon is a book too? I remember the song always made me cry. LOL. Big surprise, right?

Karen Kendall's books sounds great! Will definitely look for it.

Christy Reece said...

Thanks, Mary. Will definitely start Elizabeth's books in the AM, not PM. Already have too much trouble sleeping as it is. Looking forward to reading them.

Ida Brugler said...

I started typing and it just popped in my head, so i and to stop and count days. LOL The lack of sleep must finally be getting to me.

Hi Kara C -

The new Elizabeth Naughton book doesn't arrive in stores until Dec. 29th, I think. It was shipping earlier from the online bookstores - Amazon and BN, so I got it a little early. :-)

Thanks everyone for the great recommends yesterday. Sorry about the difficulty at the beginning. Hopefully the blogger demons won't be messing with us again.

Feel free to continue to comment this week. I'll post again on Monday for more good reads.

Read Sexest Dead Man Alive that someone recommend. It was a fun read. I was looking at the BookPage you get at the library and it had a review on a Susan Sizemore book. The new book is about the book a vampire bookclub is reading. So I checked her out and grabbed an earlier book I Hunger For You. I got hooked. The macho vampire guy is a member of a swat team. And it is one of those books were the guy insists he doesn't want to settle down yet he meets the girl that rocks his world. Yeah, it was a great book. Now, unfortunately I have about gobbled up the whole series.

Christy Reece said...

It's great to hear that recommended books were tried and enjoyed. Sounds like a fun series, Jackie. Thanks for letting us know!
